We welcome your submissions of poetry, translation, creative non-fiction, craft essays, literary reviews, art, collage, and photography. We accept work by writers and artists of all levels of experience, and are especially interested in publishing members of marginalized communities – BIPOC, LGBTQI2+, womxn, refugees, immigrants, creators old and young, and those who are neurodiverse or differently-abled. We aren’t accepting fiction at this time. Read our home page manifesto and check out a list of writers we love for a fuller sense of our interests. We don’t have calls for themed submissions at this time. Send us fierce, vulnerable, honest work with strong craft and authentic voice.

Terra Preta Review will be published online quarterly, each June, September, December, and March. We consider submissions on a rolling basis.

We only accept submissions through Submittable. But this is likely to change in the near future, because they only allow us 100 free submissions a month. If you go to Submittable and none of the free forms are available, we’ve been cut off for that month; you are still welcome to send a Tip Jar submission, or wait until the 1st of the next month, when free submissions will reopen.

  • You can submit for free, or make a contribution if you’re able; we do offer expedited response for a minimum contribution, but please know that money does not guarantee acceptance.
  • No previously published work, including work you’ve published on your personal social media or website.
  • Simultaneous submissions are welcome, with immediate notification if your work is accepted elsewhere; please note that we do not issue refunds.
  • We pay accepted contributors from submissions proceeds as well as making a donation to a social justice-related non-profit at the launch of each edition. You can see how proceeds are shared here.

Accepted work will be published online at and featured on our Instagram feed (and maybe Facebook, if and when we can drag ourselves back into that unfettered realm of toxicity). We retain first North American serial/online rights; after your work is published here, feel free to reprint it elsewhere with attribution.

Thank you, truly, for considering submitting to Terra Preta Review. Here’s the link to submit:

We strive to respond within six months for open submissions, and within one month for tip jar submissions. If you have questions before submitting, or your submission has passed the response window, please email us:
